Goaltenders Head to Team’s ECHL Affiliate in Boise
CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that goaltenders Pat Nagle and Josh Robinson have been assigned to the Idaho Steelheads, the club’s ECHL affiliate.
Nagle and Robinson combined for a 30-save shutout in a 3-0 victory over the San Antonio Rampage during Sunday’s pre-season finale at Cedar Park Center. Robinson started the game and stopped all nine shots he faced, while Nagle entered midway through the second period and turned aside 21 shots to secure the shutout. It was the first career game action for both players in a Stars’ uniform.
Robinson, 23, re-signed for his second year with Texas on July 12, 2013, after spending his first professional season with the Steelheads. The Frankenmuth, Michigan native played in 39 games for Idaho during the 2012-13 season, posting a 27-8-1-3 record, with a 2.57 goals-against average (GAA), a 0.925 save percentage (SV%) and five shutouts. He also appeared in 13 post-season games for the Steelheads during the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs, earning a 5-7 record with a 2.50 GAA, a 0.919 SV% and one shutout, leading Idaho to the Western Conference Finals before losing to the Stockton Thunder in five games. Robinson was recalled to Texas twice last season and served as the Stars backup goaltender for three AHL games. He was undrafted after playing four years of NCAA Division I college hockey for Michigan Technological University of the WCHA.
Nagle, 25, signed a standard AHL contract with the Stars on August 27, 2013. The Bloomfield, Michigan native completed his second pro season with Tampa Bay’s ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades, in 2012-13, posting a 14-9-3 record, with a 3.02 goals-against average and a 0.904 save percentage in 31 games. He also made his AHL debut with the Syracuse Crunch on March 6, 2013 at Toronto, entering the game at 2:24 of the second period to relieve starter Riku Helenius in a 6-3 loss to the Marlies. Nagle made his first career AHL start on March 21, 2013 at home against Binghamton Senators and remained with the Crunch and dressed as the backup goaltender for every game of the team’s run to the 2013 Calder Cup Finals. During his rookie season he helped Florida win the 2012 Kelly Cup Championship, beating the Las Vegas Wranglers in the Finals in five games. Nagle appeared in six games during the 2012 Kelly Cup Playoffs, earning three wins, including one shutout, during the Eastern Conference Finals against Elmira and adding another shutout victory against Kalamazoo in the Conference Finals.
