Stars Face Iowa Tonight at 7:05 p.m. in Des Moines
CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that the club has signed goaltender Allen York to a professional tryout contract, calling him up from the Evansville IceMen of the ECHL.
York, 24, began the season by attending the Nashville Predators NHL training camp and played one game last week for the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers on a PTO, while making his ECHL season debut for Evansville last night against Cincinnati. The Wetaskiwin, Alberta native was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the sixth round (158th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and has played in 11 career NHL games, all with Columbus, posting a 3-2-0 record with a 2.30 goals-against average and a 0.920 save percentage. Last season York split time between the Springfield Falcons (AHL) and Evansville, going 13-6-0 in 19 AHL games with a 2.39 GAA and a 0.907 save percentage and 3-1-1 in five ECHL games with a 2.72 GAA and a 0.919 save percentage. The 6’3”, 190 lbs. netminder played three seasons of NCAA Division I college for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of the ECAC and two years of junior hockey for the Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL, winning back-to-back AJHL championships in 2007 and 2008.
Texas will complete its 10-day, five-game road trip on tonight with a grudge match against the Iowa Wild at 7:05 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. The Stars will return home on Friday, November 8th for the beginning of Stars & Stripes Military Appreciation Weekend presented by Sport Clips, facing Milwaukee at 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Park Center.
